It has been a month and the bootcamp starts on Monday, September 25th! I've already gone through all the online course material that I've completed and still do not have the one thing that I was hoping to gain in that time and that is the ability to create code (basically create from scratch). The material I've gone through is great and all, but it really is a matter of repeating the steps given to me (or at least that is what I'm getting from it). What I am hoping to gain, is the ability to know what to put where when I need to and I’m sure I’ll be getting that not too long after the bootcamp starts!
This past Monday, I attended the bootcamp orientation. I met the other students that will be attending as well as the instructors and counselors for the program. I was very surprised at the diversity of the group, in that they varied in age and nationality. Everyone took turns introducing themselves and by the time it was done, you could tell that we all felt more relaxed and welcome.
Today was also my last day of work. My co-workers were very excited for me and offered words of encouragement, including one of the owners. They were all great folks to work with and I hope to make them proud. From here on out, it’s all about coding!
I'm currently on an online in-depth course in Java and some chapters contain exercises that you have to fill in the missing code in order for the program to work. The instructor will provide the solution if you need it, but he really wants you to attempt to solve it first. This has been a real challenge for me, but I'm making progress and I hope to have it solved without his help. I'm going to be spending the rest of the weekend trying to complete as much of this online course as I can. Hopefully it will give me enough knowledge to make the first week or two of bootcamp less stressful.
I’ll try to update more as the course progresses.
