The Half Way Mark

Hello everyone!

Thank you for stopping by to read my latest blog post.

So it's 4am here in Ohio and I have decided to stay awake and write this blog post when I really should just take my butt to bed and get some sleep. However, I've learned so many great things since my last post, that I can't wait to share some of it with you all.

Every passing week has flown by and to my amazement, I've managed to retain a ton of what I've learned. I'm sure this is mainly due to constant use of what I've been taught, but I also believe it's because I really enjoy seeing what I code come to life.

Now, don't think that I've got everything memorized, it’s quite the opposite! If it weren’t for Don, Alan (the instructors) and the rest of the students in my cohort (that’s what we call our classes), I would have missed turning in a ton of weekly projects. I believe that having so many supportive people around is what makes being in a bootcamp so worthwhile. Everyone is so focused on getting better and at the same time, Don and Alan are pushing us to help each other out. It makes learning these complex things so much easier.

2 weeks ago, we finished up back-end (Java) learning. The last project was so hard, that I thought I’d never get it done. Truthfully, I was not happy at all with the results, but I know I gave it my all and in the end, I still ended up with a respectable grade. We started front-end learning with Spring-boot and Thymeleaf last week. Spring-boot creates a local server on my laptop and runs the java code that I created. Thymeleaf takes that java code and renders the information onto an HTML page. I was amazed at how seamless it all came together. Amazingly, I learned and applied all of that in 1 week!

This week, we learned CSS, Grid and Flexbox. Grid and Flexbox are newer types of CSS specifications and I was stunned at how all that code came together to create amazing web pages so easily! Our project this week involves creating a portfolio web page using CSS, Grid and Flexbox. I’ve already completed the majority of my project, but still have tons that I want to add to it. If you would like to see what I have so far, you can check it out Here.

Well, I think I’ll call it a night (or morning I should say). Thanks again for stopping by and reading my blog. If you would like to be notified when I post my next blog, feel free to follow me on Twitter. I have not used it in quite a while, so I think now is a great time to start using it again!

See you all next time!
